Clean your fridge coils – here’s how!

If the condenser coils of your refrigerator are clogged up with pet hair and dirt, it will make the compressor work harder and more often. This can significantly reduce the efficiency of your refrigerator’s compressor, making it run longer and cooling less efficiently.

Condenser coil cleaning should be done every six months according to industry standards. The industry standard recommendation for condenser coil cleaning is every 6 months. Pet hair can quickly clog the coils. For those who forget to clean their refrigerator coils, we suggest adding a reminder to your calendar that “Clean Refrigerator Coils” is being done.

How to Clean Refrigerator Coils

A condenser cleaning brush, appliance glides (optional), as well as a vacuum, are needed to clean the coils. Appliance glides are highly recommended for moving your refrigerator. They will prevent scratches and tears on your linoleum floor or hardwood floor.

Most refrigerator condenser units are found either at the back of your refrigerator or at the bottom. They can be accessed from the grille panel/front toe. Locate your coils using your Owner’s Manual.

How to Clean Bottom Mounted Coils

  1. You can move the refrigerator gently forward to unplug it. It should be moved just enough to unplug it. If your refrigerator has a built-in circuit, turn it off at a house circuit breaker.
  2. To access the coils, take out the grille in the refrigerator’s bottom.
  3. Make sure to clean the coils with the Condenser Coil Clean Brush. ).
  4. You can vacuum or sweep away the dirt. The narrow attachment on your vacuum will give you the best results.
  5.  Once the coils are clean enough, you can reinstall your grille.
  6. Plug the refrigerator in (or turn on the circuit breaker).
  7. Reposition the refrigerator.

How to Clean Rear Mounted Coils

  1.  The appliance glides allow you to pull your refrigerator forward. To access the refrigerator’s back completely, you must pull it forward.
  2. Unplug your refrigerator.
  3. The coils are located on the backside and can be seen. They are usually either black or grey. To remove dust and dirt, brush carefully around the coils. ).
  4. After cleaning the coils, plug the refrigerator in and place it back.
