Why your Whirlpool oven is not cooking evenly

A disappointing result is a burnt cookie or an underdone roast. But don’t blame your culinary skills. What can you do if your oven doesn’t cook evenly? Before you attempt to diagnose a problem with your oven, make sure it is properly preheated. Here are some possible causes and solutions to a Whirlpool oven that is not cooking evenly.

Common Reasons Whirlpool Ovens Are Not Cooking Evenly

Part failure can lead to an oven not cooking evenly in Whirlpool. Sometimes, however, the problem can be fixed by simple adjustments to your care and/or a DIY fix. These are common causes of uneven cooking and the easy solutions to them.
Most Common Oven Issues
Sometimes minor modifications or changes to your user practice are enough to fix a Whirlpool oven’s inability to cook properly.

Here’s how you can troubleshoot an uneven cook:

Oven not level: Make sure all racks are in an even position in the oven An oven that is unevenly installed by a carpenter may need to have it reinstalled by a professional.
Open the oven door frequently:  This will help to reduce heat and preserve cooking time.
Do not over-preheat the oven: Failure to preheat can increase cooking time and lead to excessive browning.
Wrong cookware: Dark pans absorb heat, resulting in deeper browning. Use shiny pans to reduce browning and if you are unhappy with the way your food looks.

Whirlpool oven needs calibration

To accurately reflect the temperature, most ovens are calibrated and set by their manufacturer. Whirlpool oven temperature problems may develop from time to time. This is because of temperature fluctuations and heating over years. Sometimes, the oven’s accuracy might not match your cooking preferences. For better accuracy and more even cooking, you can have the oven’s temperature re-calibrated in either case.
Bake a batch of biscuits to see if your oven needs calibration. If your baking instructions are followed but the biscuits turn out unevenly or undercooked it is a sign that your thermostat needs calibration.

Recalibrating the temperature will vary according to your oven model. To find the best steps for your oven, consult your user manual. You can usually adjust the temperature by increments up to 35 for greater accuracy.

Oven Heating Element is not working

If the heating elements are working properly, they produce a steady heat and uniform glow. An oven that isn’t working properly in Whirlpool may have a damaged heating element. This could lead to underdone food on the top and bottom.

You may also notice the following signs of a faulty heating element:

  • Black spots or blistering
  • Breakage
  • Multimeter testing can be inconsistent
The high temperatures used to clean an oven’s self-cleaning feature can lead to a burnt heating element. Most oven maintenance tips recommend that you use an oven cleaner rather than the self-cleaning feature. It can’t be fixed so it should be replaced by a professional.
  • Failure of Oven Temperature Sensor
Also, a malfunctioning temperature sensor could cause an oven to stop heating properly. The resistance of the sensor increases with increasing oven temperature, signalling to the control board to heat more or less to maintain the temperature. If the sensor fails, the control board won’t be able to receive the signal to heat up or reduce heat. This can lead to under-or overcooked food.
Sometimes the sensor might be too close to the oven wall. In these cases, moving it can return accurate readings. Professional replacement is required if the sensor’s resistance decreases.
  • Convection Fan Not Working Properly
Does your Whirlpool oven’s convection model not cook evenly? A malfunctioning convection fan could be the cause. This fan circulates the oven’s heated air and creates faster cook times and evenly-cooked food. If the fan stops working, your meals might take longer or not cook as evenly.
The fan may stop working due to a failed convection fan motor or a broken or blocked fan blade. It is possible to fix many obstructions by removing the blade. The fan must be replaced if the blade is damaged or multimeter testing reveals that there is no continuity.

A local oven repair company can repair a Whirlpool oven that doesn’t cook evenly or fix any other problem.
